Get Involved
At Renfrew, we believe that it is vitally important for parents to be actively involved in their child's program. Parents are a child's first teachers - and often the best teachers. At Renfrew, we encourage parents to be actively involved and informed about their child's program.
Involved parents are more comfortable with their child's program. Parents know their children best - involved parents can evaluate and communicate to Renfrew staff how the program is working for their child and family. Increased practice is more effective - therapists can see children each week, while parents can practice at home on a daily basis using the little opportunities that come up many times a day. Remember, Renfrew teachers and therapists are here to work with your child and to help you enhance your child's learning.
How to Get Involved
Come to the parent orientation evening.
This evening in September is for parents to learn more about our programs and services and to meet the team working with their children.
Volunteer in your child's classroom.
Come in on a regular basis or as you are available. Speak to your child's teacher about the schedule that works best for you.
Read the "Treasures" newsletter.
This monthly publication is full of information. It will include things from a calendar of upcoming events to tips from our therapists and teachers.
Take advantage of the learning opportunities at Renfrew.
There are many workshops and information sessions available throughout the year. Information about them will come home to you in the "Treasures" newsletter.
Keep your parent handbook close by.
You should have received a parent handbook containing a lot of valuable information about Renfrew. Please call the school if you do not have a copy of this resource.
Attend the fun, family events that occur throughout the school year.
Family Days, Family Nights and other special events are great opportunities to chat with our staff or other parents and to see your child interact with classmates and participate in fun activities.
Join the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).
PAC meetings are an opportunity to meet other families and to participate in discussions and events that help Renfrew Educational Services to help your child.
Join a committee.
There are times where we ask for parent volunteers to help in special events like our Charity Gala. Parent involvement is vital to the success of these events.
Participate in Family Support events.
Our Family Support department runs information sessions and events that give families opportunities to share ideas and concerns.
Contact our staff anytime you have questions, a concern or some feedback to offer.
We can be reached by calling the school and are always happy to return your call and talk to you about your child's program.
