Darlene McShane

Therapy Assistant

“I think that, for me, Renfrew is a career company.  I believe so strongly in the work that is done here with the kids and the families and I can grow – by doing, by trying new things and by attending workshops.  This is a good work environment for just about anyone of any age.  They take you in and they ensure that you have the mentoring and whatever support you need to be successful.”

Darlene, now in her fifth year at Renfrew as a therapy assistant, is finishing her second year of disability studies at Mount Royal University with the intention of completing her degree. She is interested in management and administration and sees good opportunities at Renfrew. “Hardwork and determination are recognized”, she says “and I like the fact that you are not limited, you have the opportunity to try other roles.”

Darlene recognizes that she has gained a lot of personal confidence from what she has accomplished and the positive feedback she has received.  “I used to be so shy”, she says, “but in the classroom you have to play, to sing, to teach, to present to coworkers.  It has really helped me at school, too. I can now stand up and speak with composure to a room full of people.”
