Career Opportunity - Child Development Facilitator
We are currently recruiting Child Development Facilitators (CDFs) for our Specialized Services for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (SAS) program.
These are full-time positions commencing August 9, 2010.
Position Details:
Our SAS program provides specialized services for children who have a diagnosis on the Autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorder Spectrum. Children receive appropriate interventions from a multidisciplinary therapy team that may include CDFs, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, in the home environment. All programming is individualized based on the needs of the child and the family.
The team works to support families to create positive and meaningful interactions with their child, both at home and in the community. Parent involvement is a key part of the program and parents are supported as they take an active role working towards program goals and advocating for their child at school and in the community.
Qualifications:
- diploma/degree in a related field would be a definite asset
- some experience working with children with special needs
- high energy, positive thinker
- able to work independently, as well as the ability to be a team player
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- organized with good planning/time management and problem solving skills, and the ability to multi-task
- a reliable vehicle and a clean, valid Alberta drivers license (Class 5)
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Develop and prepare lesson plan daily.
- Develop exciting and interesting ways to teach new skills.
- Manage negative behaviours and teach positive behaviours to replace them.
- Support parents and teach them the strategies being implemented with their child.
- Collect and record data
- Facilitate/Implement Individualized Program Plan (IPP) goals:
- Collaborate with therapy/classroom team and parents to ensure consistency of strategies used across environments.
- Develop and implement activities, strategies, schedules, and so on to address the IPP goals.
- Implement IPP goals using developmentally appropriate practices, brain based learning and multiple intelligences.
