Integrated Services for Children with Motor Disabilities

Renfrew Educational Services offers a program for children diagnosed with motor disorders such as Cerebral Palsy and meet the criteria for funding through Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD). Our program is based on a holistic approach that takes into account the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of the child.

Focus is on Individual Needs and Goals

Using a multi-disciplinary model, Renfrew brings together a wide range of professionals who work with parents to develop programs based on the needs and goals of the child.

Renfrew’s team approach involves use of motor activities, integration of motor and sensory systems and, when necessary, assistive technology devices.

Developing the child’s own internal motivation is a focus of the program. We do this by fostering confidence, self-esteem and independence, which encourages children to strive to reach their maximum potential.

Our ISMD program incorporates the following approaches:

  • Family centred
  • Developmentally appropriate
  • Play-based
  • Culturally sensitive practices

The multidisciplinary team may include rehabilitation specialists, child development facilitators, psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, assistive technology specialists and family support.
